Why train online when I can go to gym and work with a trainer live?
Your workouts can only be as good as the program written. For years, I have seen people at the gym following inappropriate programs or no program at all. After I’ve assessed and interviewed you, I’ll write a detailed program specific to your needs and workout environment. You will report the details of your workout (and eating, if you wish) and ask any questions you might have. In the process, we build a rapport. Working out becomes an opportunity to learn and grow without having to meet a trainer at a scheduled time. You may workout without being beholden to a schedule and later track your progress with me.
What happens in a Skype session?
Skype sessions are whatever you want them to be. In the beginning, we’ll spend a good deal of time strategizing your fitness life – when and where is it best for you to workout? What has kept you from achieving your goals in the past? I will ask you to perform certain movements so I can get a sense of your overactive and underactive muscle groups. I will demonstrate movements for you. Eventually, and if appropriate, I will guide you through a real time workout. Ultimately, these sessions are about you and your fitness needs.
What if I need to cancel/change my scheduled Skype session?
24 hours notice is required to cancel an appointment without charge. If you are on a monthly plan, nothing happens. You’ve prepaid and it’s your time. I understand that sometimes things come up. If you know you need to cancel/change an appointment time email AND call me immediately. I will make every effort to accommodate, but make no guarantees in this regard.
Can you just write me a workout program? I don’t want to do Skype sessions.
If these are your needs, I recommend you sign up for the standard plan. You don’t have to use your monthly Skype session, however, I find a live “check in” to be extremely valuable. It is a time to ask any questions you have about particular exercises or the program in general. It is also very valuable for me to assess your progress both physically and psychologically.
Why can’t I just do workout DVDs?
DVD workouts lack the two-way interaction necessary to assess your needs. Which exercises are appropriate for you at your fitness level? Are you performing the exercises properly? Are you being challenged appropriately? With live interaction, we are able to identify and correct improper movement patterns, which will yield quicker results in the long run. You will also feel more accountability to your workouts with a live person in real time.
What makes you so good at this?
Success on a fitness program becomes an exercise (pardon the pun) in problem solving. With a lifetime of workout experience as well as 15 years training a wide range of clients, I’ve gotten very good at identifying people’s “blocks” and finding the key to unlock their fitness potential.
Do you specialize in men or women?
I’ve worked successfully with both men and women, while I’ve developed a niche for training female recording artists. Too often, women succumb to the myth that lifting weights makes you bulky. I’ve had a great deal of success (and pleasure) in disproving this myth. As a result, women looking to drop body fat and become more “toned” have become a big part of my business. I also train men who are looking to be lean, fit and athletic looking without looking like a bodybuilder on steroids. I, myself, am an athlete (I play baseball on weekends) and am educated in sports specific training methods.
Why are workouts programs only 2 weeks?
So I can stay on top of your program and make necessary adjustments. Inevitably, things come up which may force the program to change slightly. Maybe you missed a workout or were feeling particularly fatigued on a certain day so you only did half the workout. A superior workout program takes into account a constantly changing workout environment and adjusts accordingly.
